| ESD Task
Group
The esteemed Bob Vermillion has agreed to
head up a Task Group to work on the issues surrounding ESD (electrostatic
discharge) in medical device packaging. For those of you that know
or know of Bob Vermillion, you will know that there is virtually
no one better qualified to lead the ESD TG.
For an effective committee, a balance of end users, consultants
and suppliers in the medical/pharmaceutical sectors would strengthen
the group's mission.
FYI
In 1979, ESD was a $500,000,000 worldwide
problem but now according to a JPL/NASA publication, it is over
$20,000,000,000!
For the past several years, Bob has
been working for several major medical device organizations in combating
the hazards of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and electrostatic attraction
(ESA) to including testing static control packaging , conducting
comprehensive site audits, developing corporate level ESD specifications,
on site ESD training, pharmaceutical ESD/ESA delivery related issues
and others. Bob holds an annual ESD Cal Poly Professional development
seminar; the medical device manufacturers and their suppliers have
been attending for the past three years. Discussed in detail is
the protection from ESD events for the protection for pacemakers,
medical electronics, diagnostic equipment, software lock ups.
